The International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) has received a contribution from the Government of France for its work in the former Yugoslavia. The 50,000 Euro contribution is the second donation made by the Government of France since 2006.France supports the ICMP activities, which help societies, especially the Bosnian society, to confront the past and provide long awaited answers to relatives of missing persons, contributing to the emergence of truth.

A group of three experts from the Iraqi Ministry of Human Rights successfully completed a training course organized by the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The one-month training program in “Site Assessment and Physical Anthropology” was organized as part of ICMP’s cooperation with the Government of Iraq.

As the co-founder of the BiH Missing Persons Institute (MPI), the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) welcomes the decision of the Council of Ministers (CoM) of Bosnia and Herzegovina brought Thursday at their session to adopt the normative documents needed for the MPI to start functioning in full capacity.The CoM adopted a series of normative documents yesterday, allowing the MPI to commence its functions.. These include the MPI Statute, the Rulebook on the Work of the MPI Steering Board, the Rulebook on the Work of MPI Employees, the Internal Organisation and Systematization Rulebook, the Rulebook on Salaries, Compensations and other non-Salary Financial Rights.

During a visit to the facilities of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) in Tuzla yesterday, H.E. the Ambassador of Serbia to BiH, Grujica Spasovic, said he was very impressed by the work and with the results that ICMP has achieved in locating, recovering and identifying persons missing from the conflicts of the 1990’s in the Western Balkans.

The International Commission on Missing Persons has received a contribution of 300,000 Euros from the German Government for 2007. With this important contribution Germany has, since 2001, provided a total of 1,357,000 Euros to ICMP to address the issue of persons missing from the armed conflicts of the 1990’s in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) and the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) signed a Cooperation Agreement during INTERPOL‘s 76th General Assembly held this week in Marrakech, Morocco. The Agreement was signed by the INTERPOL Secretary General Ronald K. Noble, and the Director General of Kathryne Bomberger.

The issue of over 17,000 persons still missing from the conflicts of the 1990’s in the regions of Southeastern Europe is the topic of a three day conference being held by the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) in Novi Vinodolski, Republic of Croatia from 25 to 27 October.This conference is the 10th regional conference of its kind held by ICMP in cooperation with associations of families of missing persons from the region where representatives of governments from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Republic of Croatia, the Republic of Serbia and the UN Administered Kosovo are invited to share information relevant to determining the fate of missing persons.

Professor Dr (med) Guy Rutty from the East Midlands Forensic Pathology Unit, University of Leicester, United Kingdom, has been elected as new chairman of the Steering Committee on Forensic Science Programs of the International Commission on Missing Persons. The Steering Committee assists ICMP in obtaining the best scientific advice available on matters related to forensic science programs and related work within ICMP. In addition, it evaluates and monitors relevant ICMP policies and working procedures.
