Finding the missing from Damascus suburb

Following the capture of the Damascus suburb of Ghouta by government forces, evacuees are searching for missing loved ones. Since the beginning of the Syrian conflict, tens of thousands of people have gone missing. Both regime forces and opposition factions have been accused of indiscriminate attacks on civilians. Kenya denies executions by police, blames al Shabaab

A senior official in Kenya’s Coast Province has dismissed allegations that army personnel have been involved in extrajudicial executions. Commissioner Oning’oi ole Sossio said that claims by a group called Muslims for Human Rights that Kenyan Defense Forces personnel executed residents in the town of Garsen, on the west bank of the Tana river, were “malicious”, and blamed the militant group, Al Shabaab, for the killings. https://bit.ly/2pI14w7

Disappearances at US-Mexico border highlight persistent insecurity

A report that has been released by the Center for the Human Rights of Women (Centro de Derechos Humanos de las Mujeres – CEDEHM) points to the high rate of disappearances in Mexican states located along the US border, and places this in the context of organized crime related to people smuggling, drug smuggling and fuel smuggling. https://bit.ly/2GetvrX

International Criminal court to investigate killings in Nigeria

The International Criminal Court has indicated that it will investigate the September 2017 military exercise in Nigeria’s Abia State, codenamed Operation Python Dance, which led to the killing of several unarmed members of the group known as the Indigenous People of Biafra. https://bit.ly/2DYkC3v

Protesters in Pakistan demand release of detained activists

Protesters from the newly established Pashtun Protection Movement marched in the northwestern Pakistani city of Bannu on 26 March to demand the release of fellow activists detained over the past week and an end of enforced disappearances. https://bit.ly/2pGbbAO
