Mexico: At least 44 persons identified

The BBC reports that forensic scientists in Mexico have assembled 44 sets of human remains buried in a well in Jalisco state. Discovered just outside the city of Guadalajara, the human remains were hidden in 119 black bags, discovered earlier in September. Jalisco is the heartland of one of Mexico’s most violent drug gangs and this is the second major find of human remains in the state this year. https://bbc.in/2kxEkjf

Enforced disappearance in Thailand

AFP reports on the memorial ceremony for an environmental activist in Thailand whose charred remains were found in a reservoir earlier this month. Prosecutors from Serbia and BIH cooperate on missing persons

Delegations from the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the War Crimes Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Serbia have met the Chief Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts, Serge Brammertz, the Sarajevo Times reports. Discussion focused on regional cooperation, including implementation of a regional project facilitated by the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP). http://bit.ly/2lPrVaH

India urged to release detainees in Kashmir

Human Rights Watch has called on Indian authorities to release detained Kashmiris who have not been charged with a recognizable offense. Several thousand Kashmiris, including politicians and opposition activists, have been held in preventive detention since 5 August, when the Indian Parliament voted to alter the autonomous constitutional status of Jammu and Kashmir. http://bit.ly/2mdxCz7
