Philippines war on drugs: casualties

The Philippine Commission on Human Rights (CHR) has highlighted the human tragedy that accompanies the 27,000 reported deaths as a result of President Rodrigo Duterte’s “war on drugs”, Philstar reports. HRW urges UN to act on abuses in Sudan, Philippines and China

Human Rights Watch has urged the UN to act urgently on abuses in Sudan, Philippines and China. HRW cites the crackdown by security forces on peaceful protesters in Sudan as well as the “extraordinarily high number” of extrajudicial killings in the Philippines and the arbitrary detention of an estimated one million Uyghurs and others in China’s Xinjiang province. https://bit.ly/2ZZKVlz

Iran’s cruel treatment of victims’ families

Iranian authorities are violating prohibition of torture and other ill-treatment by targeting family members of the thousands of prisoners who were forcibly disappeared and extra judicially executed in prisons across Iran, according to Amnesty International. It says that in 1988 Iranian authorities forcibly disappeared and killed several thousand political dissidents in secret, dumping their bodies in unmarked mass graves. https://bit.ly/2Xt4RQb

Iraq and Iran to search for missing persons from 1980s

The authorities in Iraq and Iran will cooperate to account for tens of thousands of persons missing from the Iran-Iraq war, which ended in 1988, Asharq Al-Awsat reports. According to some Iraqi reports, 50,000 Iraqi and 55,000 Iranian troops are missing from the conflict. https://bit.ly/2Xa3vW1
