Barbara Haering has been a member of the Swiss Parliament, chairing the Security Committee as well as the Committee on Science, Education and Culture and serving as Vice-President to the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE. As Vice-President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly she chaired and participated in a large number of election observation missions.
Dr Haering chairs the Board of Foundation of the Geneva International Center for Humanitarian Demining and the Strategic Advisory Board of the University of Geneva; she is Vice-President of the Board of the Federal Institutes of Technology and a member of the Board of the TU Dresden and the Innovation Board of the TU Graz.
Dr Haering works as an independent consultant for public administrations, specializing in applied research, evaluation and strategic planning for ministries, administrations, and universities – mainly in the fields of research and innovation as well as public sector reform. She teaches public management at the University of Lausanne.
Dr Haering has been an ICMP Commissioner since March 2022.
